One of the most popular events held at Parque de las Palapas is the weekend market, where local vendors gather to sell an array of handcrafted goods, such as pottery, textiles, jewelry, and souvenirs

One of the island’s main attractions is its stunning coastline, best beaches, with Playa Norte widely regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. This pristine stretch of powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters offers the perfect setting for sunbathing, swimming, and soaking up the Caribbean vibes.
The lively town center, El Centro, is a bustling hub of shops, restaurants, and bars that showcase the small island that’s a vibrant culture and friendly atmosphere. Wander the colorful streets, browse the local markets, and mingle with the warm and welcoming locals.

Included, you also get to explore the Pyramid of San Miguelito Ruins.

Bargaining is an integral part of the Mercado 28 experience, inviting you to engage in friendly negotiations as you hunt for unique treasures at unbeatable prices. Note* This is a touristy place, so bargain as you like, but it is a good place to visit and pick up souvenirs.

Located on a short drive between Cancun and Punta Sam (point of ferries to Isla Mujeres), you can enter and see this Mayan Pyramid for around $3.30.

This enchanting oasis offers a refreshing change of pace from the city’s bustling tourist hotspots, allowing you to connect with nature and experience Cancun’s unique cultural heritage. And the best part? Admission is free.
Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins
Chichen Itza, one of the most famous and well-preserved ancient Maya ruins, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-see destination for anyone visiting the Yucatan Peninsula. This awe-inspiring archaeological complex is located approximately 120 miles (193 kilometers) west of Cancun, making it an ideal day trip for those staying in the region.
Note* Very popular with tourists and it is a must-see destination. Having said that it’s not for everyone. It is about 3 hours away just to see a pyramid which is a lot. 6 hours of your day gone, just on the road. In addition, you will probably only spend about an hour and a half here and once you see it, you won’t need to come back here again.
Built between the 9th and 12th centuries, Chichen Itza was once a thriving city and ceremonial center that played a significant role in the Maya civilization. Today, visitors can explore the impressive ruins, which include the iconic El Castillo (also known as the Temple of Kukulcan), the Great Ball Court, the Temple of the Warriors, and the enigmatic observatory known as El Caracol.
The cost of admission to Chichen Itza is approximately $25 USD per adult, with discounts available for children, students, and senior citizens. It’s important to note that these prices are subject to change, so it’s always a good idea to check the latest information before planning your visit.
Alternatively, you can join an organized tour that includes transportation, a guided visit to the ruins, and often additional stops at other points of interest. Prices for these tours vary widely, starting from around $50 USD per person for a basic package and going up to $150 USD or more for a luxury experience with additional activities.
Take A Walk Along the Hotel Strip and Enjoy the City

Safety and Accessibility
The Hotel Zone is a safe and well-maintained area with wide sidewalks and pedestrian-friendly paths. While walking along the strip is generally safe, it’s essential to remain aware of your surroundings and use caution when crossing busy streets. If you’re planning a long walk, be prepared for the warm temperatures by wearing comfortable clothing, staying hydrated, and applying sunscreen.
Staying at all-inclusive resort is a great place to stay because you are so close to all the action when visiting Cancun.
ADO Bus to Playa Del Carmen
Hear me out here, taking a bus in Mexico sounds sketchy but it was easy to navigate, felt safe with the buses, and other tourists were also there.
ADO bus system runs regularly every hour between cities, safe with tinted windows, AC, and comfortable. I was able to go to Cancun to Playa del Carmen and back for about 50-100 pesos. It was probably about 8$.
Buses from Cancun to Playa del Carmen run frequently throughout the day, with departures starting as early as 6:00 am and continuing until midnight. The trip takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on the specific route and the number of stops along the way.
To catch the ADO bus, head to the main bus terminal in downtown Cancun, located on Tulum Avenue. Tickets can be purchased at the terminal’s ticket counter or online via the ADO website. It’s generally not necessary to book tickets in advance, as there are plenty of buses available, but it’s a good idea to arrive at least 30 minutes before your desired departure time to ensure you secure a seat.
The one-way fare for the Cancun to Playa del Carmen journey typically ranges from $4 to $6 USD per person, depending on the class of service (first class or luxury) and the time of day. Upon arrival in Playa del Carmen, you’ll be dropped off at the ADO bus terminal located on 5th Avenue, just a short walk from the town’s famous beaches, shops, and restaurants.
I highly recommend coming here to Playa del Carmen in whatever transportation services make you feel comfortable.
Sea Turtle Snorkeling Trip to Akumal Beach
A bit of a drive from Cancun, you can find yourself at a beautiful beach with green sea turtles!
The best time to see turtles at Akumal Beach is between May and November when they come ashore to lay their eggs. However, it’s essential to remember that these are wild animals, and observing them should be done responsibly. Maintain a respectful distance, avoid touching or disturbing the turtles, and do not use flash photography.
You will be able to rent equipment as needed in the town where the beach is located.
In addition to its incredible beaches and turtle-watching opportunities, the town of Akumal boasts a variety of attractions and activities to suit every traveler’s taste. Explore the mesmerizing underwater world of Yal-Ku Lagoon, a natural aquarium teeming with colorful fish and coral formations. Venture into the Aktun Chen Natural Park, where you can discover ancient caves, zipline through the jungle, or encounter local wildlife.
After a day of adventure, unwind at one of Akumal’s many beachfront restaurants, where you can savor mouthwatering local cuisine, fresh seafood, and tropical cocktails as you watch the sunset over the horizon.
Get Adventurous at Aktun Chen Eco Park
Aktun Chen Eco Park is conveniently located along Federal Highway 307, approximately 25 miles (40 kilometers) south of Playa del Carmen and 19 miles (30 kilometers) north of Tulum. The admission fee for the park varies depending on which activities you choose to participate in, with package deals available for those who wish to combine multiple experiences. Prices range from $30 USD for a guided cave tour to $85 USD for a full-day package that includes the zipline canopy tour, cave exploration, and cenote swim.
El Rey Archaeological Zone (El Rey Ruins)
Located on the Southern End of the Zona Hoteleria, these ancient Mayan site are located right in the hotel zone! There is a $2.50 admission fee to enter and see 45 different ruins.
Dating back to the Late Postclassic period (1200-1550 AD), El Rey served as an important ceremonial center, trading hub, and residential area for the ancient Mayans. As you wander through the ruins, you’ll be transported back in time, walking among the vestiges of temples, plazas, and residential structures that reveal the intricacies of Mayan architecture and urban planning.
One of the most striking features Mayan archaeological sites of El Rey is the central platform, known as Structure 2, which once housed a temple dedicated to the Mayan rain god, Chaac. The site also boasts several well-preserved tombs adorned with intricate carvings, providing valuable insights into the funerary practices and beliefs of the Mayan people. As you explore the archaeological zone, keep an eye out for the resident iguanas that have made the ruins their home, adding an air of mystique to the ancient landscape.
Visiting El Rey Archaeological Zone is not only a journey into Cancun’s distant past but also a testament to the resilience of Mayan culture and its enduring influence on the region. Conveniently located within the city and easily accessible to travelers, the site offers an engaging and educational experience for history enthusiasts and curious explorers alike.
Day Trip To Tulum
A day trip to Tulum offers an unforgettable experience, combining the allure of ancient ruins, breathtaking natural beauty, and the pulsating energy of a thriving town. Located approximately 80 miles (130 kilometers) south of Cancun along the Riviera Maya, Tulum is easily accessible by bus or car, making it a popular destination for those looking to explore beyond the bustling resort city.
Tulum Ruins
The most iconic attraction in Tulum is its well-preserved Maya ruins, perched on a cliff overlooking the stunning Caribbean Sea. Once a significant trading port and ceremonial center, the Tulum Archaeological Zone offers visitors a unique opportunity to delve into the history of the Maya civilization while marveling at the picturesque backdrop of turquoise waters and pristine beaches. Key structures within the site include the Temple of the Frescoes, El Castillo, and the Temple of the Descending God.
*Highly recommend getting a package tour of Tulum with Cenote! Mine was about 8 hours long, and only cost 35$! They pick you up and drop you off at your hotel!
Avenida Tulum
After exploring the ancient ruins, head to Avenida Tulum, the town’s main thoroughfare, where you’ll find an eclectic mix of restaurants, bars, shops, and galleries. This vibrant street offers a taste of Tulum’s contemporary culture, as well as a chance to indulge in delicious local cuisine, browse artisanal crafts, and soak up the lively atmosphere.
Avenida Tulum has a vibrant performing arts community, with national and international musicians coming here from time to time to visit Cancun/Tulum.
Cost and Transportation
To reach Tulum from Cancun, the most economical option is to take the ADO bus service. The one-way fare for this journey ranges from $10 to $15 USD per person, depending on the time of day and the type of service (first class or luxury). The bus ride takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours and departs from the ADO bus terminal in downtown Cancun.
Upon arrival in Tulum, you can either walk, rent a bike, or take a taxi to the archaeological site, which is about 1.8 miles (3 kilometers) from the town center. The entrance fee for the Tulum ruins is approximately $5 USD per person, with additional fees for parking or hiring a guide.
Selfie With The Cancun Sign
The iconic Cancun Sign, a popular photo spot for tourists, is located at the entrance of Playa Delfines, one of Cancun’s most famous beaches. Playa Delfines is situated in the southern part of Cancun’s Hotel Zone at Kilometer 18, near Boulevard Kukulcan. The colorful sign, featuring the word “CANCUN” in large block letters, offers a fantastic backdrop for memorable vacation photos, with the beautiful Caribbean Sea and pristine beach in the background.
